Rp550 Billion for Handling Sickness

Indonesia once again raise funds for HIV/AIDS from the Global Fund. The main beneficiaries, namely the Ministry of Health, NU, and the National AIDS Commission, or NAC, signed an agreement extending a grant of 60.7 million U.S. dollars or about Rp550 billion to the Global Fund, Wednesday (23/6).

These funds will for the Ministry of Health of 39.1 million U.S. dollars, the National AIDS Commission (NAC) 18.6 U.S. dollars, and Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) at 2.9 million U.S. dollars for the first period, July 1, 2010 until June 30 2012. Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih Health Minister said that due to HIV/AIDS, Global Fund funding from the government 45 percent and 55 percent.

The Global Fund has provided assistance in grants to Indonesia since 2003 to support HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.

Global Fund Executive Director Michel Kazatchkine said the Global Fund is a major donor of funds for HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. Funds collected from donor countries, corporate, and donors from around the world it is a form of collective efforts to combat the disease. "No one can overcome the illness alone," said Kazatchkin.

Use of funds

Director of Communicable Disease Control Ministry of Health Iwan Direct Mulyono disclose, funds HIV/AIDS that will be used for strengthening health capacity in high-risk groups, support to hospitals for antiretroviral treatment, treatment of sexually transmitted infections, and share other activities.

Deputy Secretary of the NAC field J Silfanus Fonny Program said the organization will use the fund for the prevention of new infections, especially in key populations.

NU Vice Chairman Wan Nedra Institutes of Health said it will cooperate with other community organizations to build centers that injecting drug use prevention. In addition, there are outreach programs to high-risk group. (Ine/DAY)
