Description
Medullary thyroid carcinoma is a cancer of the thyroid gland that starts from cells that release a hormone called calcitonin. Such cells are called cell "C". The cause is unknown. Unlike other types of thyroid cancer, medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), believed to be associated with radiation therapy (a type of cancer treatment).

Symptoms
Symptoms that arise among other things, respiratory problems because of narrowing of the airways, coughing, coughing up blood, diarrhea, goiter, a lump in the thyroid gland.

Treatment

Treatment involves surgery to remove the thyroid gland and surrounding lymph nodes. Because this is a rare tumor, surgery should be performed by a surgeon who has cancer experts.
